Short-term preparedness.

This section deals with being prepared for emergencies that are short-lived.  In our definition short-lived means that the emergency situation will be over in less than 72 hours.  Three days.  It might not mean that the full emergency is over but that help has arrived here not working and living on emergency services within three days.

In this context an example might be where you have a power outage and you lose power overnight.  That's a short-term emergency.  The cause of the power outage might be a winter storm that has created ice on trees that have knocked down a power line.  But the power crews are not over-extended, it's limited to your area, and they are able to restore power the next day.  Or you are able to leave the area and go somewhere else until power is restored.  This would constitute a short-term emergency.
