Medium-term preparedness
For us medium-term preparedness is longer than three
days and less than a couple of weeks.
In short-term preparedness we use the example of a power
outage with power being restored in a day or two. To
continue with that example, suppose the power was not restored
for a week. I have been in just such a situation.
Many people in the St. Louis, Missouri area have encountered
that situation in the winter ice storms. People encounter
it all too frequently when a strong wind blows down power
lines. If you're only prepared for a three-day outage.,
you may begin to grow a little concerned by Day Four or Day
Five. This is understandable. At this point, you
are probably thinking of leaving, if that is possible.
If it is not possible, you are really worrying.
But there are some strategies that you can employ to be
prepared for this. We will discuss some of those in this
section.
